IBERIAN RED DEER | HUNTING RED DEER WITH IBEXHUNTSPAIN.ES

SPANISH RED DEER

The Spanish Red deer is one of the largest of the World’s deer species.  In winter, its coat is rough, thick and of a grey-brown color with a distinct dark yellowish rump patch.  In the summer, the coat changes color to reddish-brown.
Only stags have a thick neck and carry antlers.  The antlers start to grow in early spring and are shed at the end of winter.
Antlers can grow to a huge size with a rough surface and in some cases, with the fourth or fifth tine forming a basket.  Red deer normally stay in the same sex group for most of the year.
During the rut however, mature stags fight for control of their harems.  Rival stags challenge their opponents by belling and walking side by side.
If neither stag backs down, a crash of antlers can occur, sometimes causing serious injuries.  Only mature stags hold harems and during the rut, they rarely feed loosing up to 20% of their body weight.

BECEITE IBEX HUNT | IBEXHUNTSPAIN.ES

David A. Colwell. January 2013 -  Beceite ibex

Date: January 7, 2013

I hunted with Valeriano Belles of Ibex Hunt Spain in January of 2012 for Spanish Ibex. He runs a very efficient and ethical hunting program. His hunting camp was well organized and equipped. Valeriano is excellent at judging the trophy size of mature males and his trophy preparation and paperwork for shipment overseas is perfect. The fact that he speaks and understands English is a bonus, making the trip run very smoothly for U.S. citizens.

I highly recommend Valeriano for  your hunts..

Gredos Ibex hunt | Ibexhuntspain.es

Jaroslav Kiska. January 2013 - Gredos Ibex

Dear Sir or Madam

I am writing with regarding to Valeriano Belle´s . In September 2011 I was hunting under Valeriano’s guidance in the Spanish mountains Gredos for Ibex Gredox. While achieving the highest possible standard of work, I saw many examples of his numerous talents and was impressed by his diligence and work ethic. I would like to take this opportunity to recommend Valeriano

During my time with him as my outfitter, Valeriano proved himself to have outstanding outfitter and hunter skills. He was able to successfully organize the whole trip for me as a hunter and my two sons as observers. He planned the trip to the smallest possible detail from finding a highly comfortable accommodation and taking us to special local restaurants to guiding me in the mountains to the best possible Ibex. This hunting trip was a major undertaking, requiring a great deal of thought and effort on Valeriano´s behalf.

Sincerely,
Ing. Jaroslav Kiska

The Hunting Report IbexHuntSpain

Hunt Report and evaluation

I recently hunted with IbexHuntSpain (whose owner is Valeriano Belles) with a personal guide . My hunt took place in spain during the first two weeks of december 2011

I was totally taken care of from the moment I was greeted stepping off the plane, to the moment I boarded the plane on my return trip home. I hunted out of 4 different hunt camps ranging from ranch- style hotels to bed and breakfasts. I was treated like the royalty the entire trip and felt like a member of their family. The food was unbelievable. If one were ever to leave the table hungry, it was his/her own fault.
Hunts consisted of fair chase and there was an abundance of animals. The weather was brisk in the mornings with blue sky throughout the days. I took above average animals with included: gredos ibex, beceite ibex, mouflon sheep, balearen goat, and i was even lucky enough to get a spanish fox.

The hunt consisted of scouting from 4 wheel drive to walks throughout the mountains or rocky cliffs. At all times, my personal guide was most concerned for my safety first followed by my satisfaction in taking the trophy of a lifetime. He was very good at judging the animals and determining their trophy quality. He was even willing to prepare the pack my lunches and water.

Every animal was handled with the utmost care. Three of the animals were capped for full-body mounts while the other two were for shoulder mounts. I was present each time we went to the taxidermist so everything was prepared and shipped according to my wants and desires.

Due to unexpected time availability during the hunt, I was able to add on an additional hunt where we had to fly to an island; the air transportation was handled by the owner. All personal expenses were discussed prior to my arrival with the only extra expense being the additional animal I chose to add on. My only responsibility on this entire trip was to shoot straight. My shots consisted of approximately 120 yard shots to 340 yard shots. The terrain ranged anywhere from basic, simplistic mountains to areas that were quite steep and deep. It´s obviously an asset to be in shape.

During our spare time, we were able to visit a castle and able to go out couple of evening for enjoy the spanish culture. Even to the prior trip, I was impressed by the thorough preparation i received

I shopped other outfitters at the SCI show, the internet, and made many phone calls from various references. For a trip consisting in five animals, a female ibex, a non- purebred balearic goat (seven animals in total),
I have hunted brown bears and moose in Alaska, dall sheep, mountain goats, muskox, white tail deer, and caribou in Canada, plains game in Africa, red stag, fallow deer, chamois, thar in New Zealand, black bucks in Argentina, antelope , deer, elk, bob cats, audad sheep, and cougars in the United States, but I must say that out of all trips I´ve taken, these will go down as one of the most memorable and reading trips I´ve ever on every aspect, down to the final detail, was taken care of. This is a ``most hunt´´ for any serious hunter.

INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL HUNTERS' ASSOCIATION.

June 3, 2014

Mr. Craig Kaufman, President
Safari Club International
4800 W. Gates Pass Road
Tucson, AZ 85745

Dear Mr. Kaufman

The International Professional Hunters’ Association and its worldwide membership want to be put on record as objecting in the strongest manner possible to SCI plans to start its own in house booking agency – SCI Outdoors. We are deeply concerned about the adverse repercussions such a move will have on our industry and it seems unimaginable that SCI could even consider such a move, and certainly that the organizations representing the interests of professional hunters, outfitters and booking agents were not consulted.

These organizations (which you like to call SCI Affiliated Organizations) and their members have always played a major role in the success of your convention and ultimately your organization and it makes no sense that such a decision could be made without their input - and a decision which will put you in direct competition with so many loyal, longstanding members who have donated so much to your organization.

In no way should Safari Club International be in the booking business, nor in any way favor or support any of its members over others. It is certainly doing this by competing against its own members in this commercial activity, a very serious conflict of interest. It needs to focus on its current mandate - representing the interests of all of its members, providing the marketplace to put operators together with clients and fighting for the rights of hunters.

Our IPHA members have supported your organization since its inception and are responsible for
thousands and thousands of dollars in your coffers from donated hunts. We are deeply concerned that SCI Outdoors will negatively impact their livelihoods and we urge you to reconsider this divisive and ill- conceived decision.

Sincerely yours,

Eduardo de Araoz
President
